The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has pledged to contest the legitimacy of the October 19 local government elections, condemning the swearing-in of 23 local government chairpersons by Governor Uba Sani as a covert and undemocratic act.
The PDP criticized the ceremony as an affront to democracy, alleging that the electoral process was manipulated in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission’s (KADSIECOM) declaration of APC candidates as winners of all 23 chairmanship and 255 councilorship seats, the PDP released a statement on Friday through its Publicity Secretary, Maria Dogo.
In the statement, the PDP expressed no surprise at what it described as a “secretive move,” claiming that the elected officials were “imposed” rather than genuinely elected by the people. “We reiterate that no local government council election was held in Kaduna State on Oct. 19,” the statement read, adding that any subsequent actions, such as issuing certificates of return or swearing-in, were “futile and will not stand the test of time and the law.”
The PDP has assured Kaduna residents that it is taking legal action, aiming to invalidate the recent election and counter what it sees as an undemocratic process.
