Retired Super Eagles midfielder Austin Okocha has expressed confidence that Spartak Moscow forward Victor Moses will return stronger after his lengthy spell on the sidelines and help the Russian giants clinch the league title. Moses began the 2022/23 season in fine form for Spartak, scoring two goals in four matches and thriving under new manager Guille Abascal.
The 32‑year‑old suffered a serious injury in the first half of Spartak’s 2‑0 win over Ural on match‑day four of the Russian Premier League in August 2022. The former Chelsea player went down without any contact from an opponent and was stretchered off the pitch. He has now returned to training and could face the same side that caused his injury when Spartak meet Ural again on March 4.
Spartak were top of the league before Moses’s injury but currently sit second, six points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg. Okocha believes his compatriot can be the game‑changer for the Gladiators. “Victor is a great football player who played at a high level at Chelsea and is now showing his worth at Spartak,” Okocha said in an interview with Sport24. “It is a pity that he has an injury, but I wish him the very best. I am sure that when he recovers and returns to the squad, he will help Spartak become the champions.”
