Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi says the Toffees will give everything to avoid the drop this season, following successive contrasting results in the Premier League. The Merseyside club are fighting for their lives in the top flight for the second season running, and the struggles have seen manager Frank Lampard fired, with former Burnley coach Sean Dyche hired as his replacement.

After securing a spirited 1‑0 win over Arsenal in Dyche’s first game in charge, Everton lost to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Monday night, marking their 12th defeat of the season and leaving them 18th on the table. With just 18 points in 22 games, Iwobi believes Everton’s chance of escaping relegation depends on the squad’s mentality as they adapt to a new reality.

“It is a mindset thing. It is having that mentality to go into every game like we did against Arsenal. Maybe that wasn’t the same 13 games ago. We have to produce it consistently now. That’s what the manager wants — start with hard work, selfless running, selfless things for the team. And we’ve all bought into it,” he said.

Speaking on the impact of new manager Sean Dyche, Iwobi told The Daily Mirror, “The manager has helped me a lot tactically. And his attention to detail — he doesn’t miss anything.”

Everton’s next Premier League game is at home against Leeds United on Saturday.
