Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), recently claimed that the Labour Party (LP) was struggling to recruit polling‑unit agents. In a tweet, Sowore alleged that LP leaders were “practically begging” INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu for a comprehensive list of agents submitted so far, adding that the INEC chief was “shocked” by the request. He wrote: “Labour Party has practically become an Airbnb for internally displaced politicians. Today at a meeting with INEC and political parties, their leaders were begging INEC to help them with their polling unit agents list. INEC Chair, Mahmood Yakubu, was shocked!”

The Obi‑Datti Presidential Campaign Council responded swiftly. Spokesman Yunusa Tanko told The … that Sowore’s tweet was an attempt to mislead the public and a form of cheap blackmail. Tanko argued that no party can claim its list of polling‑unit agents is 100 percent complete, and that the LP’s campaign team has already submitted over 90 percent of its list. He emphasized that it is reasonable for any party to request official information from INEC, noting that even Sowore’s own party has not achieved full completion.

Tanko dismissed Sowore’s allegations as a bid for political relevance, urging the public to ignore the claim. He concluded that the truth will become clear once the election begins and the actual presence of polling‑unit agents can be verified.
