AFCON 2025Q: Benin Republic defender out of Super Eagles clash with injury

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic will be without key defender, Cédric Hountondji for their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Nigeria and Libya.

Hountondji has been sidelined with a hamstring injury for around one month.

The centre-back sustained the injury during preparation for Benin Republic’s matchday three encounter against Rwanda in Kigali.

His absence will be a big blow for Benin Republic, who are hoping to secure a place at the AFCON for the first time since the 2019 edition hosted by Egypt.

The Cheetahs currently occupy second position in Group D with six points from six games.

Gernot Rohr’s side will host Nigeria at their makeshift home ground, Felix Houphet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan next week Thursday.

They will be away to Libya four days later.
