The Lagos State Police Command has summoned five officers accused of extorting N155,000 from a student. Command spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin announced on his verified Twitter account on Wednesday that the officers were called to the state headquarters in Ikeja. Those summoned include an Assistant Superintendent of Police and four Inspectors, and further updates on the case will be provided.

The allegations stem from a report by polytechnic student Sanni Faruk, who claimed that five officers attached to the Meiran Division extorted N155,000 from him on Sunday. According to Faruk, the officers forced him off a bus at Abule‑Egba while he was on his way to school, handcuffed him, and took him to Meiran police station. While at the station, he was compelled to transfer the money from his bank account to an OPay account before being released. He said the N155,000 was intended for his school accommodation. The incident was reported to the state police command, prompting the summons of the officers to respond to the allegations.
