The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, declared on Wednesday that he will be Nigeria’s next president while seeking the votes of Rivers State residents. Speaking at an APC rally in Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, Tinubu emphasized that his pursuit of power is driven by a desire to improve citizens’ living conditions and make Nigeria a prosperous nation.

Tinubu arrived at the venue around 4 p.m. for an event originally scheduled for 10 a.m. He was accompanied by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, former Ekiti Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole, South‑South National Vice Chairman Chief Victor Giadom, and APC Rivers State governorship candidate Tonye Cole, among others. Former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi was absent, though his loyalists, including state APC Chairman Emeka Beke, were present.

Apologizing for the delay, Tinubu told supporters that the lateness was neither his intention nor their fault, describing it as “politics in politics.” He stressed that the goal was not merely to obtain power but to secure the authority needed to transform lives and foster prosperity. Tinubu urged the youth to acquire world‑class skills that could be used to manufacture and export products, making Nigeria a source of pride. He warned that such prosperity would be unattainable without peace, functional factories, and efficient seaports to generate employment. “Without our own factories, better utilisation of our ports, and stability, we cannot achieve those aims,” he said, urging citizens to take their lives seriously beyond politics.

Responding to the cheering crowd, Tinubu expressed gratitude for the warm reception. “You want the President? By the grace of God and the power of your votes, I will become your president. Make sure you have your PVC and your ballot ready. I know you are looking for a president, and you will vote for me. God will bless you. Let us work together to build a nation of joy, unity, and hard work, where we do not kill each other,” he declared. “I am running for President. When you make me president, I will love you more.”

Earlier, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu reminded supporters that promises are a biblical burden that must be kept without excuses. He criticized the PDP for failing to deliver a southern president, noting that the APC’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, is a southerner ready to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari. “We have given the South what the PDP could not. Now it is up to you to keep your side of the bargain and vote for the APC,” Adamu urged, adding that voters should be prepared with their Permanent Voter Cards.
