Taraba airport temporarily shutdown for upgrades

The Taraba State Ministry of Transportation Development has announced the temporary closure of Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, the state capital.

The Commissioner, of Transportation Development, Yakubu Yakubu, made the announcement on Friday in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Kwantar Genesis.

He said the closure is in line with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s, NCAA, approval

The closure, which he said, is scheduled to last until December 20, 2024, is to
facilitates ongoing upgrade projects at the airport, which began in January 2024.

“These improvements include the construction of drainage systems, perimeter fencing, the installation of an Instrument Landing System, rehabilitation of the existing runway to extend its length from 2.4km to 3km, and the acquisition of two new fire tenders.” The statement read.

The initiative, as stated by the commissioner, is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and improve air travel services for residents of Taraba and neighbouring states.

He encouraged commuters to remain patient as work progresses, with full flight operations expected to resume upon completion.
