EPL: Arsenal’s set piece goals shouldn’t stand, they’re illegal – Mikel

Chelsea legend, John Obi Mikel, has described Arsenal’s recent pattern of football as illegal.

The Gunners have been scoring week in week out from set pieces with their set piece coach regarded as one of the best in the world.

During their midweek clash with Manchester United in the Premier League, the Gunners netted twice from corner kicks.

However, several videos have emerged on social media showing how the players cluster around the opponents’ goalkeepers, blocking them from going for the ball in the air.

Analyzing the game between Arsenal and United and similar goals by Mikel Arteta’s side, Mikel called on the referees to stop the Gunners immediately.

“The set piece, I’ve said it. That’s illegal. Those goals should not stand. What they’re doing to the goalkeeper is illegal,” Mikel said, insisting that Arsenal’s goals against the Red Devils shouldn’t have stood.

“I don’t think that should stand because those players have no intention of playing the ball. What they’re doing there is pin the goalkeeper, obstruct the goalkeeper from coming out.

“They actually blocked him. If a goalkeeper is trying to come out to claim the ball, there’s no chance. They get away with it all the time. I mean, all the time.

“It’s incredible. Not just Saliba, a host of them impede the goalkeeper from coming out. For me, that’s illegal. The referees should cut that out. They need to stop it right now because if they don’t, a lot of the clubs will start doing it.”
