The Nigerian Customs Service, Kebbi State Command, has seized 8,975 litres of petrol packed in 25‑litre kegs from suspected smugglers. In a conversation with journalists, Customs Area Controller Comptroller B. Oramalugo reported that, over the past three weeks, the command has intercepted various items with a duty‑paid value of N91,518,928.
The seized goods include 189 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 71 bags of imported sugar, 42 bales of second‑hand clothing, and 36 sacks of used shoes. Additional items comprise 74 cartons of bleaching cream, 110 solar batteries, 105 cartons of medicine, seven used vehicles used for transport, and one tanker truck suspected of being smuggled into the country in violation of the federal policy that prohibits vehicle importation through land borders.
Comptroller Oramalugo disclosed that the confiscated petroleum products will be auctioned immediately after the briefing. “It is disheartening that, despite the substantial amount the government spends to make petroleum products available to citizens at reasonable prices, some unscrupulous individuals choose to divert the product to neighboring countries for personal financial gain,” he said. He added that the command is fully equipped to fulfill its duties as mandated by the Customs and Excise Management Act.
