Lancaster University, Ghana, asserts that teaching students how to write research papers in secondary school will enable them to excel in research writing at the tertiary level. At the opening of the new office in the Nigeria Institute of Architects’ Building in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Academic Group, Mr. Daniel Adkins, explained that many university students lack research‑paper skills because they were not taught them in secondary school. He highlighted Lancaster University’s world‑class, comprehensive curriculum and noted that the university was created to give African students the chance to earn international degrees without leaving the continent.
Adkins added that TAG partnered with Lancaster University, Britain, to establish the Ghana campus and is working to bring top‑200 universities to locations where students can receive quality, world‑class education. “The Orient programme curriculum encourages a broad, student‑focused approach that teaches problem‑solving skills,” he said. “It gives students the opportunity to write four research papers in secondary school, so they already know how to write a research paper when they reach university. In many parts of the world, students do not write research papers in high school and then struggle at university.”
He explained that TAG will introduce the UK style of education, helping students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to meet the nation’s industrial and societal demands. “We also offer top‑200 degrees, which enable students to pursue postgraduate studies at highly ranked universities. To enter a highly ranked institution, you generally need to have graduated from a top‑200 university. We are giving them the opportunity to aim for places like Oxford or Cambridge,” Adkins said.
Chief Strategy Officer Mr. Christopher Pilgrim disclosed the group’s plan to establish a TAG college in Nigeria, creating an avenue for students to study abroad. Pilgrim said the group will assist financially capable students who wish to study overseas by facilitating admission to partner universities worldwide and providing scholarships.
