Lionel Messi will not be making a sensational return to Barcelona this summer, according to his father. The 35‑year‑old is out of contract with Paris Saint‑Germain at the end of the season, and although initial reports suggested he might extend his deal in Paris, a compromise has not been reached after talks this week.

Barcelona have openly courted Messi since his acrimonious departure in 2021, and president Joan Laporta has insisted the club will attempt to bring the forward back despite their financial issues. However, after failed negotiations with PSG, Messi’s father returned to Barcelona and told reporters that a return to the club is not on the cards, even though his son’s future remains unclear, Football Transfers reports.

“I don’t think Leo will play for Barça again. The conditions are not met. We have not spoken with Laporta and there is no offer,” Jorge Messi was quoted as saying to the Catalan outlet SPORT. “Impossible? No idea, I don’t know if it will be impossible. We didn’t even speak with Laporta, stop. Leo’s under contract with PSG.”

When asked if he would like to see his son play for Barcelona again, Jorge replied, “Life takes many turns.”
