No Immigration officer killed in Kangiwa terrorist attack

The Nigeria Immigration Service has refuted claims that its officers were among those killed in a recent terrorist attack on border facilities in Kangiwa, Kebbi State.

A statement from NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo, released on Sunday, confirmed that the attack occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025, at approximately 7:20 p.m. Four individuals lost their lives in the incident, including a local watchman and three contractors.

No Immigration officer was harmed during the attack; however, the Service reported significant damage to its border facilities.

The NIS expressed condolences to the families of the victims and stated that it is collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that those responsible are caught and held accountable.

The statement also emphasized the Service’s ongoing commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders. It noted that a suspected terrorist group targeted border facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa Border in Kangiwa LGA of Kebbi State around 7:20 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025.
