Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to concentrate on a new initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians. In a letter dated January 8, 2025, addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Bafarawa described his decision as “profoundly personal and challenging,” yet essential for aligning with his new vision focused on youth empowerment.
In the correspondence, Bafarawa expressed his commitment to a youth initiative dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and transforming the lives of young individuals, whom he views as the foundation of Nigeria’s future. He acknowledged the significant role the PDP has played in Nigeria’s political development but emphasized that his resignation was necessary to avoid any potential conflicts of interest as he shifts his focus to this new project.
“My main focus will now be to generate opportunities for youth empowerment, encourage innovation, and promote principles that will ensure a thriving future for everyone,” he stated. Bafarawa also expressed gratitude for the opportunities he experienced within the PDP and recognized the leadership and members of the party for their contributions to advancing democracy in Nigeria.
