Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed that he would celebrate if Manchester City were stripped of their titles by the Premier League due to violations of financial regulations. During Klopp’s tenure, Liverpool finished as runners-up to City on two occasions, specifically in the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons.
The Premier League referred Manchester City to an independent commission in February 2023, citing 115 alleged breaches of financial rules that occurred between 2009 and 2018. The club has consistently denied any wrongdoing in these matters.
In his first public appearance as the head of global soccer at Red Bull, Klopp was asked how he would respond if City were found guilty and their league titles were rescinded. He recalled a previous discussion on the topic, stating, “I haven’t spent a lot of time in Mallorca because I am always flying around the place.” However, he added, “If it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: ‘Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!’ We’d have our own parade in my garden.”
