Security personnel, believed to be from the Department of State Services (DSS), reportedly detained activist Mahdi Shehu. According to Daily Trust, he was apprehended by plainclothes operatives at his clinic in Unguwar Dosa around 11:00 a.m.
As of now, no official statement has been released by security agencies regarding the arrest of the Kaduna-based activist and political commentator. Mahdi’s son, Buhari Mahdi, has indicated that they have been unable to communicate with his father since the incident occurred.
This is not the first time Mahdi has faced legal troubles. In December 2024, he was arrested and subsequently charged in court for sharing a misleading video on social media. The Kaduna State High Court granted him bail on January 9, 2025, setting the bail amount at ₦3 million and requiring two prominent clerics to act as sureties.
