The chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, addressed the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which was reported to be N1.1 billion and N850 million. On Wednesday, he clarified that these allegations were a misrepresentation of facts in the media. He emphasized that the report did not accurately reflect the position of the Senate Committee on Finance during the registrar’s appearance for the 2025 budget defense on Monday.
In a statement released to National Assembly correspondents in Abuja, Senator Musa explained that the line items in the report provided by JAMB were thoroughly examined and found to be fully compliant. He noted that it is a parliamentary rule for heads of government agencies to account for their budget performance before requesting new appropriations.
For clarity, the statement indicated that the comprehensive report from JAMB shows that the line items discussed during Monday’s hearing on revenue do not imply any mismanagement or misuse of the board’s funds. Senator Musa commended the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for demonstrating financial discipline and accountability in effectively managing the Board’s resources. He stated that this level of stewardship serves as a model for public institutions across the nation. Furthermore, the report underscores the responsible and prudent use of resources under the registrar’s leadership.
