Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy has urged the club to consider signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian international decide to leave Anfield. Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, and he has yet to sign a new deal with the Premier League leaders. Consequently, the 32-year-old could depart Arne Slot’s side as a free agent in the summer.
Murphy believes that Rodrygo would be an ideal successor to Salah, praising the Brazilian as a remarkable talent. He stated, “If Liverpool wanted one player to replace Mohamed Salah, the obvious choice for me would be Rodrygo from Real Madrid. I think he’s a wonderful talent.” Murphy acknowledged uncertainty regarding Rodrygo’s contract situation in Madrid but emphasized the player’s experience at the highest level, having won Champions League titles in recent years.
While Rodrygo’s statistics may not match those of Salah, Murphy highlighted his ability as a match-winner who can take on defenders. He noted, “He is quick, and he is playing in an environment where he’s under huge pressure every week and dealing with it.”
