The new Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, is set to visit the sites of the early‑morning protests that erupted along Lagos‑Ikorodu road on Friday. A police source, speaking exclusively with The …, confirmed that the commissioner is currently en route to the Mile 12 area of the state. Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin also affirmed that the CP will tour the affected neighborhoods today, with Mile 12 as his first stop.

Protests broke out in several parts of Lagos on Friday morning, including Lagos‑Ikorodu Road to Agege, Iyana‑Ipaja, Epe, and the Igando area. Demonstrators were protesting the scarcity of naira and the inability of Nigerians to obtain the new banknotes. In addition, vehicular movement on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway was halted after a protest erupted in the Mowe area of Ogun State, where angry citizens took to the highway to express their displeasure over the naira crisis.

President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) announced in a national broadcast that the old N500 and N1,000 notes are no longer legal tender. He extended the validity of the old N200 note for 60 days, until April 10, 2023.
