Dennis Bergkamp hints at coaching comeback as Arteta faces sack speculation

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has expressed his interest in returning to management amid reports that current Gunners boss Mikel Arteta may be at risk of being sacked.

Media Talk Africa reports that recent stories from Metro and FourFourTwo suggest Arsenal are considering dismissing Arteta.

The speculation arises as another potentially trophyless season looms for the Gunners under Arteta.

Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table with 44 points, six behind leaders Liverpool. Their 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, 18 January, has worsened matters for the north London club.

The Gunners are already out of the FA Cup, having been knocked out by Manchester United, and head into the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United 2-0 down.

Gunners legend Bergkamp, speaking to William Hill at the FWA’s Tribute Night in London, revealed he would not shy away from taking on an interesting managerial opportunity.

“I’m at the stage of my life now where I’ve got a bit more freedom with my time – the kids are all grown up now! If something interesting were to come along, then I’m sure I’d like to do something like that,” Bergkamp said.

The former Netherlands international has previously held various roles at Ajax, including assistant coach.
