World’s number one in Men’s Tennis, Jannik Sinner banned over doping

The world number one in Men’s Tennis, Jannik Sinner, has been banned for three months over doping.

Sinner tested positive for a banned substance last year.

The Italian was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA.

The organisation said in a statement on Saturday that “Mr Sinner will serve his period of ineligibility from 9 February 2025 to 11.59pm on 4 May 2025.”

This means that Sinner will be eligible to return to competitive tennis before the French Open which starts in late May.

Reacting to his ban, Sinner said in a statement on Saturday, “I have accepted WADA’s offer to resolve these proceedings on the basis of a three-month sanction.”

“I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realise WADA’s strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love,” he added.

Sinner initially said he hadn’t done anything wrong.

He was cleared of doping last August by an independent tribunal who determined he was not to blame.

However, he has now accepted a ban which expires in time for him to compete in the Italian and French Opens in May.
