Real Madrid cannot play in another league — LaLiga President Tebas

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has spoken for the first time since reports emerged that Real Madrid had threatened to quit LaLiga.

Los Blancos are furious over refereeing standards in Spain.

Sport claimed that Madrid could make a sensational move to leave LaLiga and join a different league.

This follows Jude Bellingham’s red card in their 1-1 draw with Osasuna.

Bellingham was sent off by referee José Luis Munuera Montero for foul and abusive language in the 39th minute.

Montero accused the 21-year-old of shouting “f*** you” in his direction as he vented his frustration.

However, Bellingham insisted he said “f*** off” and that it was aimed at himself rather than the match official.

Tebas has now hit back at Real Madrid’s threats, insisting there is no chance of them being carried out.

“It’s a hoax,” Tebas said at Los Desayunos de La Crónica de Badajoz on Tuesday.

“It’s impossible, and they themselves know it. There is a sports law that states Spanish clubs are obliged to play in national competitions.

“Their threat is merely part of the strategy they are following. Which league are they going to go to?”

Tebas’ comments appear to shut down any possibility of Real Madrid switching leagues, but there were already multiple barriers to such a move.

Any potential change of league for Real Madrid would first need approval from FIFA and the league they wish to join.

They would also require UEFA’s approval to make the switch.
