2026 World Cup qualifiers: Onyedika add to Super Eagles’ injury woes

Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika has added to Nigeria’s injury concerns ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after being forced off during his club’s league clash against Standard Liège on Sunday.

Onyedika was replaced by Casper Nielsen in the 23rd minute after picking up an injury.

The exact nature of the 23-year-old’s injury has yet to be disclosed by the Belgian Pro League champions.

Media Talk Africa reports that Super Eagles stars Semi Ajayi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also sustained injuries this weekend.

Ajayi suffered a hamstring injury in West Brom’s 2-0 win over Oxford United on Saturday.

Dele-Bashiru picked up an ankle injury in Lazio’s goalless draw with Venezia, also on Saturday.

The injuries will be a concern for new Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe next month.
