Ramadan: Yobe emir urges traders to reduce prices of essential food items

In the spirit of Ramadan, the Deputy Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers and Emir of Bade, Alhaji Umar Suleiman, has appealed to wholesale and retail traders to reduce the prices of essential goods and consider the plight of the poor in society.

The First Class monarch made the appeal while speaking to journalists in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area.

He expressed concern over the continuous rise in food prices, which he said is exacerbating the economic hardship.

β€œI appeal to traders to consider the struggles of the poor and lower food prices. The daily surge in food costs is exacerbating economic difficulties,” he said.

The emir, who noted that the holy month of Ramadan is not a period to increase the prices of commodities, urged well-to-do Nigerians to assist the less privileged in this month.

β€œIt is important that highly placed individuals in society provide succour for the less privileged,” he said.
