EPL table: Liverpool go 16 points clear of Arsenal after Southampton win

Liverpool have opened a 16-point gap at the top of the Premier League, following a 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Reds came into the home fixture looking to extend their lead at the summit, with Arsenal not playing until Sunday.

However, it was the visitors who took a shock lead shortly before the end of the first half.

Will Smallbone pounced on a defensive mix-up between Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk to slam home the opener.

But Liverpool were level early in the second half, with Darwin Nunez producing a sharp finish inside the area.

Mohamed Salah then added a pair of penalties to ensure Arne Slot’s men take all three points.

Arsenal will have the chance of cutting into the lead when they travel to Manchester United tomorrow.
