Comedian MC Tagwaye follows El-Rufa’i, dumps APC for SDP

Nigerian comedian and politician Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has officially left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Announcing his decision on Facebook, Tagwaye stated that his defection followed “months of intense consultations and introspection.”

He criticized the APC for deviating from its founding principles, citing issues such as a lack of reward for loyal members, a gerontocratic leadership structure, and policies that have worsened economic hardship.

He also accused the party of compromising internal democracy, claiming that a few power brokers dictate its direction while sidelining the majority.

“In contrast, the SDP stands for youth inclusion, transparency, and accountability,” he said, adding that the party’s vision for a better Nigeria aligns with his own.

Tagwaye encouraged others who share his views to join him in working toward “a brighter future for Nigeria.”
