Two inmates at the Nigeria Correctional Centre (NCoS) Aba, Abia State Command, have been discharged by the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai during a jail delivery.

Also, 15 inmates with minor offenses who are awaiting trial at the Aba Correctional Centre, have been granted bail by Justice Abai.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Judge expressed worry at the large number of awaiting trial inmates in the Centre and urged Magistrates in the Abia State Judiciary to be considerate in giving bail to inmates with minor offenses.

Justice Abai also urged the officials of the Nigeria Correctional Centre to be diligent in taking inmates to Court and to provide a comprehensive list of the inmates with minor offenses for future jail delivery exercises.

In a remark, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Abia State, Mrs A.O. Chinedu praised the Abia State Chief Judge for the courage she displayed in the line of justice.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Aba branch, Mrs Esther Dim Oriaku expressed worry at the large number of awaiting trial inmates in the Centre.

She advised the beneficiaries of the jail delivery to become good and productive citizens.
