Delta Govt introduces mandatory smoke emission permit for vehicle owners

The Delta State government has announced the introduction of a mandatory Smoke Emission Permit for commercial and company vehicles operating within the state.

It warned that non-compliance would not be tolerated and that violators could face prosecution.

Commissioner for Transport, Mr Onoriode Agofure, stated that the initiative aligns with the Delta State Internal Revenue Law 2020, and will take effect this year. He explained that the measure aims to reduce the dangers posed by vehicle emissions and promote environmental sustainability.

Vehicle owners are required to obtain the permit from Vehicle Inspection Offices, VIO, across the state.

Agofure emphasised that the introduction of the permit reflects the administration’s commitment to environmental protection, public health, and sustainable urban transport.

He urged vehicle owners to comply with the new regulation to avoid penalties and contribute to a safer, cleaner Delta State.
