Nigerian troops capture wanted terrorists

The Nigerian military has arrested two suspected terrorists on its watchlist, along with a known arms dealer, Shehu Bagiwaye, in separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.

This was disclosed by Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing on Thursday.

He also confirmed that 75 rehabilitated former terrorists were handed over to the Borno State Government, while several insurgents were neutralized in recent military operations.

According to him, those rehabilitated include seven adult males, 34 adult females, and 34 children.

In addition to counterterrorism efforts, troops between March 10 and 20, 2025, arrested 23 suspected oil thieves and recovered stolen petroleum products worth ₦461.78 million.

Security forces also confiscated 247,629 liters of stolen crude oil and 198,374 liters of illegally refined diesel (AGO), while 21 illegal refining sites were destroyed.

The operations also led to the seizure of various weapons, including AK-47 rifles, locally made guns, pump-action shotguns, RPG tubes, and significant rounds of ammunition.

Several crude oil cooking ovens, dugout pits, boats, storage tanks, and drums used in illegal refining activities were also uncovered and dismantled.

The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and curbing illegal activities across the country, stressing that all those involved in criminal operations would be brought to justice.
