Abia wins Cross River as 16 States battle for National Handball trophy in Umuahia

The ongoing National Under 12 & Under 15 Handball Championship in Umuahia township stadium has continued, with some States producing surprising results.

The tournament, which was sponsored and hosted by Abia State government, runs from March 18 to March 29, according to the Abia State Director of Sports, Obioma George.

In the Under 12 Female category, C&S of Kwara lost to Plateau State 22-15, Abia defeated Ikom of Cross River 23-2 and Sokoto won Kaduna 10-8.

In Male Under-12, Abia lost to C&Sof Kwara by 13-23, Osun defeated Plateau 25-21, while C&S of Kwara trashed Akwa Ibom 23-6

In Under 15 Male, Adamawa defeated Plateau 27-12, C&S of Kwara defeated Benue 30-29, C/R lost to Adamawa 38-21 while Abia trashed Kaduna 24-7.

In Under 15 female, Benue defeated Kaduna 23 -6 and Abia defeated Girl Child of Gboko 25-13.

Speaking on the National sporting event, the Abia State Director of Sports said that it would be used to harness future international champions for Abia State and Nigeria.

George, who confirmed that a new Bus has been delivered to Abia State Sports Council by Governor Otti for improvement in performance, lamented that the Council’s output was previously hampered by poor logistics.
