Onana names two EPL clubs that wanted to sign him before Man Utd

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has revealed that Arsenal and Chelsea were interested in signing him before he eventually joined the Red Devils.

Onana moved to Man United in a £47.2 million deal in July 2023.

The Cameroon international spent a season at Inter Milan before making the switch to Old Trafford.

Prior to that, he spent six seasons in Ajax’s first team, helping the Dutch club win three Eredivisie titles before joining Inter Milan on a free transfer.

However, Onana has now claimed that both Arsenal and Chelsea had registered their interest in him in the past.

When asked to name the clubs he had come close to joining during his time at Ajax, Onana told Le Média Carré: “I had Monaco, I had Nice, I had Atlético Madrid, I had Chelsea, Arsenal.”

But when pressed on which club he came closest to joining from Ajax, Onana replied: “Lyon. I spoke with the president and the technical director, so it was advanced anyway.

“It was difficult for me to speak with the president because I had decided to learn Italian.”
