Ahead of the 2023 general election, former Vice President Namadi Sambo and former Kaduna governors Ahmed Makarfi and Ramalan Yero pledged to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Their vow was made during the official flag‑off and presentation of flags to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

At the ceremony, the party’s senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central, Lawal Adamu—who recently won a Supreme Court ruling to reclaim the seat—was formally handed the PDP flag. Sambo, the special guest of honour, urged Nigerians and the people of Kaduna to turn out in large numbers to vote for all PDP candidates. Makarfi and Yero appealed to PDP members to unite, return to their polling units, and deliver the party’s candidates at the polls. “We, the former governors of the state, will guide the party’s governorship candidate when voted accordingly,” Makarfi said.

In earlier goodwill messages, senators Shehu Sani and Sani Bello called on Nigerians and Kaduna residents to prevent the APC from regaining power at both state and national levels, warning that the current hardships would be minor compared with the consequences of an APC return.
