US tariffs: Anti-Trump protests spread across European cities

Scores of people on Saturday protested across European cities against United States President Donald Trump and his adviser Elon Musk.

This followed a bruising week for financial markets after Trump unveiled sweeping global tariffs.

In Frankfurt, Germany, the demonstration was reportedly organised by Democrats Abroad, the official organisation of the Democratic Party for US citizens living overseas.

Protesters in Berlin held placards calling on fellow Americans living in Germany to protest for an end to the chaos back home.

The demonstrators, gathering at Opernplatz, Frankfurt, demanded Trump’s resignation, with placards reading “Restore Democracy”, “Hands off our personal data” and “The world is tired of your bullshit Donald, be gone!”

Media Talk Africa reports that in Berlin, slogans directed at Musk read “Shut up Elon, no one voted for you”. A dog wore a sign that said “Dogs against the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, run by senior adviser Musk, an initiative of the second Trump administration to reduce federal spending waste, fraud and abuse”.

In Paris, capital of France, at least 200 people, mostly Americans, gathered on the Place de la République to protest against Trump.
