Vladimir Guerrero Jr agrees $500m contract with Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to a new 14-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays worth $500 million, according to multiple media outlets.

The details of the deal, which were leaked on Sunday, reportedly include no deferred money.

This contract is surpassed only by Juan Soto’s 15-year deal worth $765 million, agreed to in December.

Guerrero is a four-time All-Star and was the MVP runner-up in 2021. He was set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

By tying him down to a fresh contract now, Toronto avoids getting into a massive bidding war on the open market.

In his career, the 26-year-old has hit 160 home runs, driven in 511 RBIs (runs batted in), and holds a .287 batting average across 829 games.

Last season, he hit 30 home runs and drove in 103 RBIs with a .323/.396/.544 batting line.

In 10 games this season, Guerrero is hitting .256 with no home runs and four RBIs.
