Kebbi governor condemns FUBK student abduction, orders security action

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has condemned the abduction of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred at Istijaba Villa—an off-campus hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area—also resulted in the tragic death of a local resident, Malam Siddi Hussaini, who was shot while attempting to rescue the student.

In a statement released by Abdulrahman Zagga, Director of Security at the Cabinet Office, the state government said it had taken swift and proactive steps to secure the student’s release.

Governor Idris has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to collaborate closely with university authorities to ensure the safe return of the abducted student.

The governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Unguwar Jeji community, and the FUBK community.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all students in the state.

Zagga further clarified that the incident occurred outside the university campus, at a privately owned hostel.
