Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa welcomed a wave of youths from the All Progressives Congress (APC) who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, just days before the Saturday elections. Addressing the new members, the PDP’s vice‑presidential candidate and Governor Okowa urged them not to fear the election outcome. “We welcome you all to the PDP; the party is a big umbrella capable of covering everybody,” he said. “On Saturday’s presidential election, don’t worry—the PDP will win, there is no doubt about that. Politics is all about numbers, so when we come together, it will be easy for us.” He assured the youths that no one was being marginalized within the party.

Former APC Secretary Nick Otunba and Chief Roland Irero, who led the defectors, declared that the defection confirmed Delta State’s allegiance to the PDP. Otunba expressed satisfaction not only with joining the PDP but also with witnessing a mass exodus from the APC, citing the hardships the APC had imposed on the people. They characterized the APC at the state level as a “one‑man show” that lacked concern for the masses.

In a related development, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Women Worldwide endorsed the Atiku/Okowa ticket. The endorsement was announced during a town‑hall meeting held on Monday in Asaba.
