Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, defended the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against recent criticism. Dingyadi, who serves as senior special assistant on media and communications to the PDP national chairman and sits on the media advisory committee of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, told our correspondent that Atiku will never compromise the greater wellbeing of Nigerians if elected on February 25. He also emphasized that Atiku is not a religious bigot.

Dingyadi expressed amusement at what he called “APC propagandists” who, he claimed, were trying to gain cheap publicity by falsely linking Atiku to religious bigotry and hatred as the election approaches. “Anyone who knows Atiku Abubakar will agree that he lives a life guided by the fear of God and a commitment to the wellbeing of people, positively participating in activities that build their future,” he said. He described Atiku as “an advocate of goodness, peace, development, political unity and cohesion amongst Nigerians.” According to Dingyadi, attempts to malign Atiku’s character through propaganda will fail and will be “doomed before and after the election.”

Throughout his campaign rallies across the nation, Dingyadi noted, Atiku has consistently demonstrated his passion for unity, development, cohesion and peace, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences. He highlighted Atiku’s practice of meeting religious and community leaders before each rally as evidence that the candidate seeks to share hope and solutions, informing them of his agenda to garner support and convey a message of unity.

Dingyadi warned Nigerians not to heed “agents of destruction and liars” who aim to undermine unity and the country’s political future through hatred and propaganda. He praised Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, as responsible leaders focused on rebuilding the nation and redeeming Nigerians from the suffering and poor governance associated with APC‑led policies. Voting for Atiku, Okowa, and other PDP candidates on February 25, he argued, is the best solution for effective, positive leadership that will usher in peace and unity.

He concluded by asserting that Atiku’s programmes promote peaceful coexistence, the rule of law, developmental growth and national tranquility. “We should not endanger the future of our children’s generation because of selfishness and ignorance,” Dingyadi said. “Rather, we must stand firm, change the narrative, and support the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and all candidates from top to bottom starting from February 25 to the March elections.”
