INEC Announces No Resumption Date for Voter Registration and PVC Replacement

INEC yet to set date for CVR resumption -- Official — Daily Nigerian

In a recent update, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has made it clear that there is currently no set date for the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, in Nigeria. Additionally, the commission has not scheduled any timeframe for the transfer and replacement of lost Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs. This important clarification was shared by INEC’s spokesman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, through the commission’s official social media channel on Sunday, aiming to keep the public informed and up-to-date on the commission’s activities.

The statement from Oyekanmi also included a warning to the public to be cautious of false information circulating online. Specifically, he addressed claims that the voter registration services and PVC replacements would resume on May 27, labeling these as fake and urging citizens to disregard them. Instead, Oyekanmi emphasized that any official announcements regarding the resumption of these services would be made through INEC’s verified channels, ensuring that the public receives accurate and trustworthy information.

This move by INEC is crucial in maintaining transparency and trust in the electoral process. By debunking false rumors and reassuring the public of their commitment to keeping them informed, the commission demonstrates its dedication to fairness and openness. It also highlights the importance of relying on official sources for information, especially in this digital age where misinformation can spread rapidly.

As Nigeria prepares for future elections, the ability of citizens to register and participate is fundamental. The Continuous Voter Registration process and the issuance of PVCs are critical components of this, ensuring that all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote. INEC’s role in managing these processes efficiently and transparently is not only a logistical challenge but also a cornerstone of democratic governance.

For now, the public will have to wait for an official announcement from INEC regarding the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration and the replacement of lost PVCs. Until then, it’s essential for potential voters to stay informed through official channels and to be cautious of unverified information that could lead to confusion or misinformation. By doing so, Nigerians can look forward to a more inclusive and participatory electoral process, underpinned by the principles of democracy and transparency.
