Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen added another goal as the Serie A leaders defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2‑0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round‑of‑16 tie on Tuesday. Osimwan opened the scoring in the 39th minute, finishing a swift counter‑attack that followed Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp’s save from a Napoli penalty. Giovanni Di Lorenzo doubled Napoli’s lead after the break, setting up what could become the club’s first ever Champions League quarter‑final appearance.

Frankfurt began the match strongly, buoyed by a home crowd celebrating their inaugural venture into the Champions League knockout stages. Within four minutes, in‑form striker Randal Kolo Muani created a chance out of nothing: with his back to goal inside the Napoli penalty area, he chipped the ball over his own head and turned to fire just wide of the right upright. However, as the first half progressed, Napoli’s quality began to dominate, with the runaway Serie A leaders controlling possession and field position.

The second half saw Frankfurt reduced to ten men early on after a nasty challenge from striker Randal Kolo Muani struck Napoli midfielder Frank Anguissa’s shin. Napoli responded quickly; Khvicha Kvaratskhelia supplied a superb back‑heel pass to Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who tapped in the second goal. The win puts Napoli in a dominant position as they return to Naples for the second leg on March 15, while the current Europa League holders Frankfurt are likely to see their first Champions League campaign end at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium unless they can dramatically reverse the tie.
