Nigerian Army Neutralizes 5 Boko Haram Fighters in Sambisa Forest Operation

Troops eliminate Boko Haram fighters, capture weapons in Sambisa offensive

In a significant blow to terrorist groups operating in the northeastern part of Nigeria, the country’s army has successfully neutralized five Boko Haram fighters in a clearance operation. The operation, carried out under the umbrella of Operation Hadin Kai, took place in the Ladin Buttu axis of the Sambisa Forest, a region known for its strategic importance to insurgents due to its access to water and natural concealment.

This recent success is part of a broader, recalibrated offensive aimed at rooting out the remnants of terrorist groups from their last strongholds. According to military sources, the encounter between the troops and the terrorists occurred during a routine clearance operation, which escalated into a fierce gun duel. By the end of the firefight, five insurgents were confirmed killed, while several others managed to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

In addition to the neutralization of the fighters, the troops also recovered significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including three AK-47 rifles and five fully loaded magazines, along with other military ordnance. These items were likely stockpiled for use in future attacks, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by these terrorist groups.

The success of this operation reflects the Nigerian military’s renewed commitment to dismantling terrorist networks in the northeast. This renewed momentum is partly a response to strategic directives issued by the Chief of Army Staff, who has ordered intensified ground raids and expanded aerial reconnaissance missions in the region. Under these directives, troops have been extending their operations into deep forest enclaves, including the Sambisa axis, Timbuktu Triangle, and the fringes of Lake Chad, with the aim of degrading the operational capabilities of Boko Haram and its rival faction, ISWAP.

The Nigerian military’s approach underscores its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements until total peace is restored in the affected regions. This operation, along with others like it, marks a significant step towards achieving that goal, showcasing the military’s determination to protect its citizens and eradicate terrorism from its borders. As the conflict continues, the international community watches with interest, hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution that will bring stability back to the region.
