The member representing Ugwunagbo in the Abia State House of Assembly, Chijioke Uruakpa, has dumped his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the Labour Party, LP.

Uruakpa, whose local government area has long been a PDP stronghold, announced his defection to LP on Sunday while being received by Governor Alex Otti.

The lawmaker was accompanied by more than eight traditional rulers and other supporters from his constituency during the visit.

The news of Uruakpa’s defection was released on Sunday evening by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti in a brief statement.

A source within the camp of another PDP lawmaker in the state told Media Talk Africa in confidence that his principal may also join LP before mid-June.
