Osun State University Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Clement Adebooye warned students of voting age against selling their votes and participating in thuggery during the upcoming elections. Speaking in Osogbo on Tuesday at the university’s 16th matriculation ceremony, he addressed the 6,750 newly admitted undergraduates. Adebooye also cautioned the new students against projecting the institution negatively on social media and urged them to use the available communication channels whenever they have issues that require management’s attention.
Regarding the forthcoming poll, Adebooye emphasized that students should vote according to their conscience and avoid vote‑buying, which he described as a crime. “Let’s make this country work by shunning all acts that can undermine the nation’s progress,” he said. He called on students to reject violence, refuse any politician’s attempt to recruit them into thuggery groups, and help keep Nigeria’s democratic process intact.
The Vice‑Chancellor also advised the new cohort to take their studies seriously and prepare well for examinations, assuring them that the university’s management remains focused on their welfare. “Our student administration policy aims to provide an environment completely conducive to effective learning,” he affirmed. “We consider our students critical stakeholders and consistently strive to ensure they have positive memories and a high level of satisfaction during their time within our walls.”
