In a significant move to bolster the energy sector, the construction of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri (BOGAA) has been hailed as a strategic step towards driving human capacity development. Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it aligns with the federal government’s vision for human capacity development in the sector.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the academy’s permanent site, Minister Lokpobiri commended the Bauchi state government for its forward-thinking approach to energy sector participation. He noted that the establishment of BOGAA demonstrates the state’s commitment to developing the human capital needed to drive the sector forward. The minister also highlighted the abundance of fossil fuel reserves in Nigeria and the importance of local capacity in managing and sustaining the sector.
The construction of BOGAA is part of a broader agenda to harness the full potential of Nigeria’s energy sector in driving economic prosperity. According to Minister Lokpobiri, President Bola Tinubu has granted approvals for the issuance of critical regulatory licenses for the Kolmani Integrated Development Projects, aiming to activate all available oil platforms for increased production. The president’s objective is to make every productive oil platform count towards national growth, transforming the energy landscape to fuel industrial growth, create jobs, and enhance national revenue.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has played a critical role in supporting human capital and technological advancement in the sector. Minister Lokpobiri expressed hope that BOGAA would establish a strong partnership with the PTDF to ensure the success and sustainability of its programs. Bauchi state Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed, thanked the federal government for its support and reiterated the state’s commitment to the academy’s success, stating that the institution would serve as a foundation for skill acquisition and innovation, benefiting not just Bauchi State but the entire nation.
The construction of BOGAA is a significant step towards developing the human capital needed to drive the energy sector forward. With the academy’s focus on skill acquisition and innovation, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s energy landscape. As the country continues to harness its abundant fossil fuel reserves, the development of local capacity in managing and sustaining the sector will be essential for long-term growth and prosperity.
