Football star David Beckham knighted by King Charles III

English football legend David Beckham has been knighted by King Charles III in a ceremony at Windsor Castle. The former player was recognized for his services to sport and charity, having enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than two decades. Beckham, now 50, received the honor for his contributions to football and his philanthropic work with organizations such as UNICEF and a UK‑based charity fighting malaria.

During the ceremony, King Charles tapped Beckham’s shoulders with the blade of a sword, officially transforming him into Sir David Beckham. The former Manchester United star, the only English footballer to score at three different World Cups, expressed his gratitude and pride. “This is without doubt my proudest moment,” he said. “I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done, but to receive an honor like this, a knighthood, is beyond anything I ever thought I would receive.”

Beckham’s knighthood was announced in June as part of the king’s birthday honours list, acknowledging both his football achievements and charitable work. Over his long and successful career he played for top‑tier clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint‑Germain, and he is a co‑owner of the Major League Soccer team Inter Miami.

Beyond the pitch, Beckham has been a prominent figure in popular culture, known for his fashion sense and his marriage to Victoria “Posh” Beckham, a former member of the Spice Girls. The highly publicised couple’s marriage means Victoria will now be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham’s achievements on and off the field have made him a beloved figure in the sports world. His commitment to philanthropy and his contributions to football have earned him numerous accolades, and this knighthood solidifies his place as one of the most respected figures in English football. The recognition ensures that Beckham’s legacy will continue to inspire and influence new generations of players and fans worldwide.
