The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre and the Anambra State Police Stakeholders Partnership Forum said they are following the shocking revelations trending on social media about a criminal ring in Anambra State. The alleged network includes police officers and others involved in illegal detention, kidnapping, extrajudicial killings, and human organ harvesting and trading.

In a petition to Inspector General of Police Usman Baba, the groups called for a total overhaul of all police units in the state and for the officers implicated in corruption, human‑rights violations, and extrajudicial killings to be investigated and held accountable. The petition, signed by Executive Director RULAAC Okechukwu Nwanguma and Coordinator PSPF Prince Azor, was made available to our correspondent in Awka on Tuesday.

The groups commended the police chief for establishing a special investigation panel to probe the extrajudicial killings, noting that a report is expected at the end of the exercise. They stressed that the investigation must not be swept under the carpet, as the world is watching closely. They also warned that the accused officers should not return to their former beats pending the investigation’s conclusion and alleged that the indicted officers boasted “power pass power” after their curious release from custody at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The groups praised Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to the state Attorney‑General to review all case files involving human‑rights abuses handled by Police Zone 13 Headquarters in Ukpo and the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu. They identified the accused members of the criminal ring as Chief Superintendent of Police Patrick Chukwuemeka Agbazue (former O/C SARS, Awkuzu, now Commander of the Rapid Response Squad), Superintendent of Police Princess Nwode Nkeiruka (former Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, now PPRO for Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo), and Inspector Harrison Akama (attached to the RRS, Awkuzu), among others. These officers are reported to be notorious for serial killings of detainees and seizing their money and property.

The groups also urged Governor Soludo to implement the recommendations of the Anambra State #EndSARS Panel submitted to his office in March 2022. Their statement read: “The time has come for a thorough overhaul of many police units that continue to be run by criminally‑minded officers, the same ways the disbanded SARS were run, which built up public anger and precipitated the #EndSARS rebellion. The aftermath continues to haunt the Nigeria Police and the country at large. We call on the IGP to ensure an overhaul of all police units that discredit the force and keep the institution in a negative spotlight. All officers responsible for corruption and human‑rights violations should be investigated and brought to account. In particular, the IGP must prevent any cover‑up or shielding of anyone involved in the alleged criminal acts and violations at Zone 13, Ukpo, and the State CID Annex, Awkuzu, Anambra State. We also call on Governor Soludo to ensure appropriate government agencies monitor the situation closely and that justice is served if anyone is found culpable.”
