The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara State, Mallam Attahiru Madami, received sensitive election materials on Thursday from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Ilorin branch. While at the CBN office, Madami supervised the removal of the materials and confirmed that they would be distributed to all 16 local government areas where the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday. He added that police and other security personnel will accompany and monitor the delivery to ensure the items reach their destinations safely before voting begins.

In parallel, state police have emphasized the importance of election security. The Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 8, Lokoja—covering Kogi and Kwara states—AIG Asafa Adekunle, arrived in Kwara with two commissioners and a deputy commissioner from force headquarters to oversee a smooth electoral process. According to a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Ajayi Okasanmi, the senior officers proceeded directly to INEC headquarters, where they met with stakeholders and secured a peace accord signed by political actors to promote a peaceful election.

After the meeting, the team moved to the police headquarters, where the heads of all tactical units were already assembled. AIG Adekunle read the “riot act” to the tactical teams, relaying the Inspector General of Police’s zero‑tolerance stance on indiscipline and his commitment to a peaceful, credible, and acceptable election. He urged team leaders to ensure that every officer on election duty takes his responsibilities seriously, warning that any dereliction will attract strict sanctions. He also highlighted the IGP’s determination to leave no room for failure.

State Commissioners of Police, CP Paul Odama and CP Arungwa Kwazul, made separate remarks stressing unity and teamwork among officers to achieve the desired outcome. They assured citizens that their safety and security would be protected before, during, and after the election, and warned the public to avoid any acts of lawlessness, noting that anyone arrested for criminal activity will face the full force of the law.
