Akwa Ibom Governor Evicts Channels Television Crew Over Defection Video

Fraud allegations against Udom not from us - Akwa Ibom Gov, Eno

In a dramatic turn of events, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has taken swift action against a media outlet, ordering the eviction of Channels Television’s correspondent and cameraman from the Government House. This move comes in response to a leaked video that has been circulating on social media, revealing the governor’s plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress.

The video, which surfaced on Friday, shows Governor Eno addressing his commissioners, making it clear that they must either follow him to the new party or resign from their positions. In the video, he is heard saying, “It’s no longer news that I am moving party, if you don’t know, I don’t know what else you know. I am told that some of you are saying you will not come, you are free, absolutely free not to join me but you won’t be in my state cabinet.” He further emphasizes that loyalty to him is a requirement for remaining in the cabinet, stating, “You can’t be in my cabinet and play anti-party. It’s not a threat, it’s what it is. I won’t beg you to come.”

Although the Channel Television reporter, Chris Moffat, was unavailable for comment, a source within the government house, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the development. According to this source, the governor was visibly angry over the leaked video, which has sparked widespread attention and discussion.

The source revealed, “It is true, what you heard is true, that is the situation here in the government house. It is not unconnected with the trending video that surfaced on Friday.” This incident highlights the tension and controversy surrounding political defections in Nigeria, where party loyalty is often a sensitive and contentious issue.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how this will impact the relationship between the government and the media, as well as the future of the governor’s cabinet. One thing is certain, however: the people of Akwa Ibom State will be watching with great interest as the drama unfolds, and the international community will be keeping a close eye on the developments in this West African nation.
