New Police Chief Takes Over in Kano and Jigawa States

AIG Garba Ahmed takes over as zonal police chief in Kano

The Nigeria Police Force has recently appointed a new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Garba Ahmed, to oversee Zone One, which covers Kano and Jigawa states. With a illustrious career spanning over thirty years, AIG Ahmed brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Born on December 14, 1966, in Katsina State, he has a strong educational background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in History from Bayero University Kano and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri.

AIG Ahmed’s extensive career in the Nigeria Police Force began in 1992, when he joined as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent. He has since served in numerous commands across the country, including Borno, Ebonyi, Kaduna, and Lagos, among others. Prior to his current appointment, he held the position of Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters. His diverse experience encompasses leadership, operational, administrative, and educational roles, making him a well-rounded and seasoned police officer.

Throughout his career, AIG Ahmed has undergone advanced training courses both nationally and internationally, including specialized training in criminal justice administration at the International Law Enforcement Academy in the United States. He is renowned for his expertise in investigation, surveillance, operations, community policing, and conflict resolution, as well as his proficiency in communications, crisis intervention, and law enforcement procedures.

In his inaugural address, AIG Ahmed urged the people of Kano and Jigawa to collaborate with the police by providing timely and useful information to help reduce crime. He emphasized the importance of allowing the police to handle law and order, rather than taking matters into their own hands.
