Over-speeding vehicle knocks popular lawyer, Paul Onota to death in Delta

A tragic incident unfolded on Friday evening when a speeding vehicle struck and killed a renowned lawyer, Mr. Paul O. Onota, Esq., near the Udu Local Government Council Secretariat. The accident occurred at approximately 3:58 p.m., leaving the legal community in a state of shock and grief. As a member of the Udu branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Onota was a respected figure, and his sudden death has sent waves of sadness throughout the organization.

The circumstances of the accident are devastating, with the vehicle crushing Mr. Onota as he attempted to cross the road. The Udu branch NBA Publicity Secretary, Okakuro Akpokona Omafuaire, Esq., expressed his deep sorrow and dismay at the news, describing it as “shocking and saddening.” He fondly remembered Mr. Onota as a gentle soul, whose passing is a tremendous loss to the community. According to Omafuaire, Mr. Onota had just returned from court the previous day, making the news of his death even more difficult to accept.

Omafuaire emphasized that the driver responsible for the accident should be held accountable for their actions, stating, “This is something we cannot accept. The driver who killed him should be held responsible for his crime.” As the investigation into the incident continues, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to respond to requests for confirmation of the report.
