In a move to support women’s economic empowerment, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the governor of Anambra State, has distributed financial assistance to 1,085 women in the Dunukofia Local Government Area. The empowerment program aims to enhance the women’s businesses, enabling them to better care for their families.
Mrs. Soludo emphasized the crucial role women play in their families, stating that they are the pillars and bear the greater brunt of financial pressure. She encouraged the women to utilize the funds to expand their businesses, emphasizing the importance of diligence and honesty. “The idea of this empowerment programme is to support your business, so that you can do better and support your families,” she said.
The women, mostly petty traders known as Ndi Afia Table, were benefiting from the program, which was made possible through collaboration with prominent oil magnate Prince Arthur Eze and Jim Martin Nwabueze. Mrs. Soludo expressed gratitude to the fund providers for their contribution to the economic sustainability of poor homes in the area.
In addition to this initiative, the state offers economic empowerment opportunities through the Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA). The agency provides low-interest business and agricultural loans and grants to small- and medium-scale business cooperative groups. Mrs. Soludo encouraged the women to take advantage of these opportunities, stating, “We urge you to capitalise on the opportunities provided by ASBA to also boost your businesses, as the agency is open and ready to assist any organised cooperative groups ready to come in.”
This empowerment program highlights the state’s commitment to fostering economic growth and supporting women’s roles in their families and communities. By providing financial assistance and resources, the initiative aims to promote self-sufficiency and economic stability among women in the region.
